Getting Dressed Up For Summer
Watching this year’s models walk down the strip probably brought back some memories. A cross between a 60s housewife, an office receptionist and a bombshell might have come to mind. As tacky as that sounds, the look is really quite astonishing. By mixing up the 50s, 60s, 70s and today, a new style has emerged.
A silky, flared gathered skirt that drapes the knees together with a revealing low-cut, brightly printed top caught everyone’s attention. Donna Reed, as she might look today is quite sexy. Complete with pointed toe heels sporting wide shiny bows let the nightlife begin.
What is interesting about this year’s summer styles is that there is something for everyone. Above the knee, below the knee and mid-calf are all featured, wrapping together the 60s and 70s. There doesn’t seem to be any one specific color but a host of pleasing tans, blues, and black.
Career minded women can find a below the knee skirt with low scooped neckline tops in various designs. Square cut, rounded, collared or draped cuts accented with macramé or lace create a feminine look. Layered lace dresses show the world that it is okay to be modest and sexy. Tassels that hang in front from the waist are great for providing a new look to a plain dress.
No matter your body shape, dresses have been designed to make you radiate. Belted gathered dresses with a modest lovely top may not reveal much skin but being modest in dress has always been sexy. Straight shifts that carry a long lean body turn heads more so than a pants suit. Sheer maxi dresses are the one exception to the rule.
Casual wear features long, loose fitting bellbottoms and of course, denim. Accentuating curves in all the right places seems to be more of a priority than jeans of the past. No worry, skinny jeans are still here and probably will be for a while. The military scene that has lasted long over a decade is finally over.
The punk scene has not vanished but changed in a more positive way. Gone with the gothic and grunge and in with the leather and unusual tees. Teens are still making a statement in ways that show style but are using a more motorcycle chic trend to say it. Biker clothing is also finding a more gentle and attractive flair by adding suede, belts and color.
The styles of dresses and outfits for this year are proving that a more pleasing look is required. By taking the best of the past and updating to fit today’s world is just what was needed. Well fitting clothes that show feminism and confidence is the result.
